Hi author! You build whole new realities with the use of pencil, pen or keyboard... You rock! So share a little bit of yourself here by filling out this interview.
Jerry nickname. I, for some reason, like it better than Gerald. Besides too many people know me as Jerry. So I keep my name that way.
GENRE’S: I’m currently dabbling in a few genres. For instance: superhero, horror, suspense and now erotica.
blog~ I’ve started a few blogs, but have a new one going at
www.xanga.com/JerryR9244. just started it so not much posted there.
how long have you been writing? Actually my writing interests began in high school. Got more serious in 2000 when I joined an online writers workshop. Members there have been a great deal of help. Many members are published.
what was your first completed book? Super Queen, a superhero manuscript that deals with a drag queen who gets superhero powers like SuperMan’s. Takes place in San Francisco during weekend of the Gay Pride Week.
what was your first published book? No books published as of yet. I’ve sold a couple of short stories though, in the horror genre. They’re in the Archives on that ezine that published them plus they can be accessed on my site.
what books do you have available now and where can they be found? None yet.
why do you write? Basically because I have a lot to say. My superhero novel came from nowhere. I thought it was high time for a new and unique type of superhero. Therefore, Super Queen evolved. I like reading horror novels as well as supense. Erotica stories are new on my list. Besides enjoy their reading they help me get used to writing one I have in mind. Hope that made sense.
how much time do you spend writing each week? The answer depends on a lot. I do my best to write at least 5 pages more if I’m on a roll. Just recently discovered Fast Draft where writers try to write 20 pages per day in order to complete a novel in about 2 weeks. Since I just found that in a yahoo group I’ve yet to start. But will do my best in that challenge.
what does your favorite writing space look like?
tell us about your muse (if you have one). Ah. My writing place is kind of small. My home is currently a room in a residential motel. Which is quiet accept for the street noise. For the time being my laptop is on a makeshift desk which is a nightstand. In a few months I’ll be getting an apartment which will have more space.
what do you read for pleasure? At the moment I’m reading Dean Koontz’s novel, MIDNIGHT. I enjoy reading his stuff. Of course, I also like Stephen King. I also read suspense and thriller as well as horror novels.
do you work outside of writing? I’m a retired office manager so I have a lot of time on my hands.
If so, at what?
outside of writing what do you do for fun? Outside of writing I enjoy reading, watching movies & TV.
where do you get your ideas for stories and characters?
So far, story ideas come from nowhere. I understand those are the best kind to write. The same goes for characters.
of your books, do you have a favorite? Super Queen is top favorite. Not because it is completed, but I enjoyed the story the character led me into.
of your characters, do you have a favorite? Hmm. Not really any favorite characters. I like ‘em all.
are any of your characters modeled after you? The main character in Super Queen is slightly modeled after me as well as the actor, Divine. I pictured Amber Lee, looking as big 9wight wise) as Divine. In the 1980’s I performed in drag. Even produced a weekly half hour TV talk show on a public access TV station here in San Francisco. So I based that part from my experience. Naturally I embellished most of the rest of the character.
if you were to add a question to this interview what would you want to share? Hmm. There are many questions running through my feeble mind. But I suppose one would be “What advice would other writers give new writers?”
bonus~ if you could have any paranormal power, what would you choose? and why? I’m not sure how to answer that I guess to be able to be a shape shifter.
Hope I made snese out of all this.
And thanks Shannon for the opportunity for this interview.
